Donate if you can

American health care isn't too hot. ( I'm being polite ) It's one thing to try and recover from a gun shot, it's another to have to worry about the hugely excessive medical bills that may destroy your life anyway. David Pirkola is a comics retailer who got shot shot while being robbed at his store last weekend. As with the case of Josh Medors and his cancer struggle, please give a little if you can.

I'm donating some 30 Days of Night original art pages for an ebay charity auction to be held at some point so look out for em.

Some more 30 Days Posters...

Cleaning out my hard drive, and don't remember posting these up ( well, for a long while I couldn't ) But you may have seen these in various 30 Days of Night books around when the movie came out.

The beautiful Melissa George, as Stella.

This here is Zurial. The visual is different to the Zurial I had named in the comic pitch vamp pinups I originally did, but at least the name made it in! And John was an awesome bloke, disturbingly suited to being a vamp.

He is THE Zurial, so it's his version that is in 30 Days of Night: Red Snow.

Today is ANZAC Day.

April 25th.

A day not for glorifying victories but for remembering the futility and waste of life that is war.

Lest we forget.

Deadspace #1 for free, animated.

Not sure my small comicbook art is that suited to being adapted to a semi-animated thing like this, but either way, if you miseed the Deadspace comic I did, here's the first issue for free!

One more Wasteland cover...

Well, just for the time being. This one is for issue 20!

for those who check out my livejournal ( as opposed to blogger or myspace or actually reading this on my main templesmith.com website ) I've disabled ( I hope! ) the loudtwitter feed as if I post too much on twitter ( yes, you can follow my daily ranting/happenings as I work via: www.twitter.com/templesmith if so inclined ) it can get a bit overwhelming and muffle the actual posts. So will keep the blogs strictly for err, bloggings from now on.

Work deadlines currently killing me, though caffeine is my friend. My bestest bestest friend. More images soon, just wish I could post substantially what I actually for the most part *am* working on, but that'd spill the beans too soon...but snippets will come shortly when I can. Welcome to Hoxford should have some stuff worth showing in the coming days.

Gene Simmons is apparently appearing at a 7/11 two doors down from my house. With what appear to be a compliment of Swiss milk maids. I'm not sure why...

Wasteland 20

Ok, one final last, final Wasteland image for now. Issue 19.

Wasteland covers...

It struck me I don't show them often, so next few days I'll post a bunch of them up. Wasteland, by Antony Johnston and Chris Mitten from Oni Press. Yes, it's worth a read, so look for it in the store! ( plug plug plug ) This here is issue #17

Wasteland 17

While dealing with the general deadline insanity that is my life and putting DVD's on in the background, I finally realized the final parts of the Matrix Revolutions movie do indeed look beautiful ( the battle at the dock ) and that the bloody people in Cloverfield have to be the unluckiest people on Manhattan Island to have a 30 story monster seemingly follow them about half the time. The extras on the dvd were nice though.

Your vid for the weekend.

The Art of Wormwood

Yep, it's coming...August I think, but am half asleep so don't quote me on that as yet.

Figured I'd show this since me boss made this cover live on his blog already ( oh how Mr Ryall hates it when I call him "boss", though to me it's a term of affection!...it's like the man wishes to actually appear like a human being or something and not an overseer! ) Nonetheless he is an awesome boss man, along with Ted Adams at IDW Publishing.

The Art of Wormwood should be jam packed with a bunch of unpublished material, along with all the covers that have ever been, a new short story just for the book and probably a few other surprises.

EDIT: Did I mention there's going to be an extremely low number uber rare signed sketched edition? Well, there will be.

Succeeding in the American comics industry. Starter course.

I also watch a load of DVD's, online docos and such as I work. Had the good fortune to see There Will be Blood yesterday, as it magically appeared in the mail for me on DVD. ( yes I am slow I missed it at the cinema ). Damn it was good. Will say that one of the deleted scenes should have been in the damn movie though. Really added some context to a couple things.

Next up I will be having some deadline near death experiences...so if you don't see an update for a little while, this is why. I'll try though.

Eisner and Eagle award nominations.

It appears the gods of good fortune have again decided for the fourth year in a row to flip some of their spare change my way, and I've been nominated for an Eisner Award in the Best Painter or Multimedia Artist (interior art) catagory for my work on WORMWOOD: GENTLEMAN CORPSE, FELL and 30 DAYS OF NIGHT: RED SNOW. Not going to win up against the great artists also there, but it's an honor to even be in the mix.

And also got a nom for the Eagle awards, from the UK, also in the painted art catagory. ( For them you can directly vote via the link, but no, I won't tell you who to vote for...nudge nudge, wink wink etc )

A huge thanks to anyone and everyone who have gotten me thus far.

Wormwood: Calamari Rising 3 of 4

Got a little ahead of myself with 4 of 4 already being in my hot little hands...but Calamari Rising #3 should be out this very week in good comic stores everywhere. If you can't find it, ask your retailer why! ( especially if you asked them to get it in for you!

Your vid for the weekend. Cracker Epics.

Possibly the greatest ever movie made of Ghengis Kahn. Khan, played by white guy from Alabama. Whom they possibly found in a dumpster. And would work for them for free. This is all I can assume.

EDIT: Wonder if Heston died just now because he saw how bad his makeup was in the vid. Oops.

WELCOME TO HOXFORD Work in Progress...

Going Exclusive with IDW

Ben Templesmith signs exclusive contract with IDW

The award-winning artist/co-creator of 30 Days of Night will create new comic book series and art books for IDW

San Diego, CA (April 4, 2008)—Artist Ben Templesmith, whose professional comic book debut, 30 Days of Night was made into a major motion picture in 2007, has signed an exclusive contract with IDW Publishing. The artist, whose work has been nominated for multiple Eisner and Harvey Awards, won a 2007 pike TV Scream Award for his work on 30 Days of Night with writer/co-creator Steve Niles.

Templesmith recently relocated to San Diego from his native Perth Australia, and will create new series for IDW as well as continue to produce miniseries based on his acclaimed series, Wormwood Gentleman Corpse and work with Warren Ellis on Fell.

In August, Templesmith will debut his latest series, Welcome to Hoxford, and, as with Wormwood and his Singularity 7 series, will handle all writing and art duties himself.

Welcome to Hoxford is a horrific new series that features an unique and terrifying take on werewolves. In the debut issue, Raymond Delgado is the newest inmate at the Hoxford Correctional Facility and Mental Institution. He's has no hope of release, parole, rehabilitation, or decent conversation. On a good day, he'll tell you he's Zeus and only bite your arm off—literally. On a bad day, you won't have time to scream to the prison guard for help. But Dr Jessica Ainley, his doctor for five years, wants to help Ray and can't understand why the newly privatized, corporately-run prison won't give her access to her patients. And why are people always transferred into Hoxford, but no records show anyone ever transferring back out.

Templesmith will also release The Art of Wormwood in August, the third such art book he has produced.

About joining IDW exclusively and his plans for the future, Templesmith said “I’m incredibly lucky to have been given the opportunity to continuously work at IDW over the years now and basically have them be the launch pad for anything I’ve ever wanted to do in comics, so I just saw this as a natural progression and a great chance to be more involved from the ground floor up. Also, the cubicle walls in the office are high enough that people still won’t be able to see that I rarely wear any pants while I work.”

IDW PUBLISHING is a division of Idea and Design Works, LLC, a revolutionary creative service company with a wide range of clients. Among its best-selling titles are Hasbro’s THE TRANSFORMERS; Paramount/CBS’s STAR TREK; Fox’s ANGEL; Konami’s METAL GEAR SOLID; and Peter David’s FALLEN ANGEL. IDW’s 30 DAYS OF NIGHT film from Sony Pictures was released in October 2007 and was the #1 movie in its first week of release.

Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse Volume 01 French Edition

Yup, Wormie goes all frenchie, so in it's honour, it get's a new cover. ( You may have seen some progressions of it on the drawing desk in an earlier post. )

Hope you all enjoyed yesterday's April Fool joke. No, sadly there will be no "30 Days of Night: Blood of Christ" . Sorry!

Fiiiinally. New Project: 30 Days of Night: Blood of Christ

First cover for the new project. Most ambitious one to date if I do say so myself. Lots of biblical research and even had a meeting with a couple of theological scholarly types to ask a few questions. Mostly about that bastard, Judas.

3 issue mini. Both writing and drawing it.

30 Days of Night: Blood of Christ

Of course, it *is* April 1st...
