Scenes From The Road 14: Houston Charity Painting
Since I did it, it's been changing hands a little. Reminded me to post it here since I saw this auction!
Houston Live Art. Done in a cool bar with arcade machines too. Jim Mahfood, David Mack, Andy Khun and myself.
4am Mexican.
We got bored.
I don't understand either.

What made you want to do comics in the first place? :)
The money, the drugs, the wimin.
Since there aren't actually really any of that in comics... I really just like to tell stories and enjoy the control being able to draw and write them all on my own gives me. ( As well as collaborations mind you. )
Plus, it's fun. And i get to draw funky stuff.

Scenes From The Road 13: Houston Batman Commission
Another one I think turned out pretty surprisingly well, ( lucky for me! ) while down in Houston at Comicpalooza. Managed to take a bunch of shots of it so figured I'd show.
And yup, if you dig commissions, I will be doing them at SDCC. first come first served on the list though basically. I'm probably going to have to raise prices too sadly, due to insane demand.
Forgot to take a picture of the pencils but here's the basic inks...
Then a good dose of water colour washes and some details....
And finally, some whiiiiiiiiite lines to add a little more definition and such. Whaaaalaaaaah.

I was looking at some of the original art you're selling on Splash Page, and i noticed these little crosses on them. What exactly are you using them for?
The crosses are generally indications where things should be fully black.
I'm pretty decent at drawing, but am terrible at inking as I don't have a very steady hand. What's your secret? Any tips?
If you don't have a steady hand, you have some sort of mental condition or are coming off an addiction of some kind I assume?
Otherwise, it's just confidence. The more you do, the better you get. Practice is key to everything, unless you believe in magical solutions. Which are sadly, magical, like "Jesus" and "Santa"...
Just keep doing it. You'll get better.
did you ever go through the "starving artist" struggle?
Yes. You do the jobs you can get. I did lots of odd little things for few bucks, art wise, and was also a janitor in my time.

Cheers for coming out...
...to both London MCM & Heroescon both. Had great times & met many great people. ( The one word I will always officially use for the South now is FRIENDLY. Even the airport security folks were nice. )
Huge thanks to all who grabbed a copy of SQUIDGIRLS at both cons. The book's net release will be delayed a tad, but should have a bunch at SDCC. Was amazed at the number of commissions I had to turn down. Sorry! Just got too busy and can only fit so many in.
To see what we all got up to at Heroescon ( one of the nicest most friendly and well run cons I've been to, props to Shelton, Dustin and also Doug "The Enabler", ) check out Molly McIsaac's photos on flickr here. Yes, I paid her to document some of the madness. ( Not to mention a great assistant to both McCool & I with lifesaving coffee runs. ) Some fantastic photos there so go have a look. She's available to take pics of pro's and cosplayers alike. I'll be using some of these in "Scenes from the Road" later no doubt...when I actually catch up to which con is which.

HEROES CON & MEEEEEE
The final big one before San Diego... and I'll at last be in one place for a bit after this!
I don't think I get down to the South of the US that much, ( Apparently Texas doesn't count since I've been there an insane amount recently! ) so now's your chance to have a chat, if you guys can make it up Charlotte way. Am told by all that Heroes con is the place to be. Find all the info you need here.
I'll also be doing this panel at HeroesCon:
Saturday- 4:30pm
IN CONVERSATION | Ben Templesmith & Guy Davis:
Monsters & The Macabre In Comics
Room 209
Ben Templesmith (Choker, Wormwood) and Guy Davis (The Marquis, B.P.R.D.) are two of the most recognizable names in comics, as well as two of the most bent. The Comics Reporter's Tom Spurgeon sits down with Ben and Guy to discuss their work, genre comics, and more.
