30 Days of Night: Red Snow & Meltdown Comics

I'm of the firm belief that if you bother reading reviews of your work you have to take the bad with the good, or ignore all of it. As a consequence because my work seems to have such a love it or hate it appeal, it's really water off a ducks back when someone says I suck arse and I don't generally read reviews where I've just done the art, as so long as I enjoy the art I do, I don't really care what others think. ( I'm super lucky to have that luxury due to enough other people willing to spend monies on my works I know )

I am however, still kind of interested in how my writing goes down, so I'm always well chuffed when others appear to like it, hence my discovery today on Playbackstl of a new review of Red Snow I thought I'd share. ( and obviously, in my bastardly less than subtle way, it's a good excuse to pimp the TPB -which came out recently- rather shamelessly yet again. If you've not been able to find it yet, the IDW online store still has copies!)

"Templesmith depicts the vampires, on the other hand, as a force of nature, appearing out of the blowing snow with little explanation. "What...What are you?" a German soldier asks in one particularly telling-and chilling-scene.

"Fear," one vampire answers, his voice emitting from a round hole in his face circled with sharp teeth.

"Death," another one echoes. "Same thing for you, really."

In other news, I'm off to Meltdown Comics in LA this Saturday the 29th for this little shindig:

Something special

It's taken me awhile to post them but if you've yet to see this amazing sculpt by Jamie Macfarlane, here it is! Honoured that he'd chose to do one up of Wormwood. For more rather damn spiffy stuff, check his site out here. You won't be disappointed.

This isn't of course, the only Wormy sculpt currently out there. Plans are also chugging along...oh yes...

Wormwood: Calamari Rising 4 of 4

Just landed on my desk here, so no doubt it'll be out in stores soooon. Hope you're liking the miniseries so far. The final issue is...different, to the proceeding three.

Currently ( among many things ) on the work desk 56

A WIP of the French Wormwood cover I'm doing up. ( I love the Frenchies and the way they treat comics, so what can I say, I wanted to do it specially for their edition. )

Skeletor

He-Man Card art!

Yes, I was asked to do a card insert that's in the DVD for the He-Man animated show. Don't think I've shown this before, but it's out now, so I can.

Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse goes international

Just before finishing work the other day, what should make it's way to my desk by a Spanish edition of Wormwood Gentleman Corpse volume 01! Yep, it's now in Spain...and probably a few other places to. It's now officially the most successful thing I've both written and drawn, with a bunch of international editions, ( French edition from Delcourt out soooon ) multiple English edition printings and even some movement on other media fronts...

0photo646.jpg

Not only that, but the second collected volume, "It Only Hurts When I Pee" came out last week and also found itself on my desk. So if you don't see it in your store, go ask why! And if you still can't seem to find it, there's always the IDW Store here, for all your Wormwood needs.

The Isotope Toilet Seat

I also think I missed posting the finale of my Isotope comics experience. The day after the awesome night of the show the amazing James Sime put on for Antony and I, I went back to do one of the now legendary toilet seats.

I doubt I match up to some of the other amazing seats hung on the Isotope walls, but I gave it a crack.

A Quick Recap: My trip to EA

THE WORLD OF EA GAMES & DEADSPACE

With all the deadline insanity and blogging hiatus, I didn't get around to posting my final part of my San Francisco trip, which was a trip to the EA offices, where all the magic that is/will be DEADSPACE comes from, as well as such little known obscure things as SPORE and SIMS 2 etc etc. They treated Antony Johnston and I like kings. Truly nice people.

They'd actually set us up for a signing at the main EA building, just for employees...and was kind of shocked at how many people turned up...a helluva lot of game people read comics that's for sure. ( Which isn't that surprising since half the people I know who have been in comics wind up in the game biz it seems )

So here's some photos from my EA trip. You may already have seen them if you simply follow my flickr account uploadings.

THE WORLD OF EA GAMES & DEADSPACE

Electronic Arts. It is a fantastical place full of joy and wonder.

Prepping for the signing.

It was at this point I learned there will indeed be a signing. " I thought people just liked to stand in lines on their break? "

The line.

THE LINE THAT DID NOT STOP

And more line...

THE WORLD OF EA GAMES & DEADSPACE

Then we got a good walkthrough a bunch of the game in up in the teams offices/studio/magical land of game making. Apparently this is a bit that's not been seen yet and they let me photo it. The game itself is all sorts of awesome. You'll want to kill yourself more than win the thing just to see how mangled your body can get in the various fun ways you die. These people are fans of guts, gore and dismemberment, what can I say. And the monsters are breathtaking.

THE WORLD OF EA GAMES & DEADSPACE

A "not really for general release" promo poster, from the Warren Ellis school of thought. And I cannot disagree with it one bit.

This isn't even the main lobby.

I'm a cracker, so this room was for me.

THE WORLD OF EA GAMES & DEADSPACE

Not only is all the cutlery in the canteen made of corn starch, thus fully recyclable, but they have their own brand water too.

It was a great trip, can't thank EA enough for showing me all the places where the magic happens. A whole bunch of truly nice yet amazingly talented people showed us a great time. It's funny to think that the game industry now dwarfs the movie biz, and now that I've been to one of the big boys in town, I've seen it in the flesh!

Want some concrete?

Want some concrete?

View from my window. About 10 of these bastards ringed the block at one point. Closest thing to earthquake I've yet to experience in California. Lesson: Don't live next to a hotel under construction. If you can help it.

No thanks to this, the deadline marathon continues for a little while longer. Then back to postings...and lotsa new art.
