If you don't know Dr Who, this might not be interesting.
Oh, and apparently Wormwood Volume 01 TPB is basically sold out. So if you see one, might want to get one. Hopefully there'll be another printing!

IDW Announces 30 Days of Night: Red Snow
Just a recap for people who come in late perhaps, or don't read the blog regularly...IDW issued a press release and it's doing the rounds, thus here it is.
30 Days of Night: Red SnowFrom IDW Publishing’s press release:
In August, IDW Publishing will release “30 Days of Night: Red Snow,” a comic book prequel to “30 Days of Night,” now a much-anticipated motion picture from Sony Pictures being released this October. Directed by David Slade, best known for directing “Hard Candy,” “30 Days of Night” stars leading Hollywood actor Josh Hartnett.
The prequel, “30 Days of Night: Red Snow,” is set half a century before “30 Days of Night,” which made its debut in 2002. Created by writer Steve Niles and artist Ben Templesmith, “30 Days of Night” is the terrifying story of a small Alaskan town overrun by vampires during thirty sunless days of the harsh northern winter. When released, the horrifying vampire tale from IDW Publishing shocked the comic book world and quickly became a bona-fide smash hit, becoming one of the undisputed success stories of modern comics—spawning a bestselling trade paperback, a major motion picture deal, and the attention of thousands of fans longing for an innovative tale of terror.
In “30 Days of Night: Red Snow,” Eisner Award-nominated artist Templesmith, one of comics’ fastest-rising stars who has previously served as writer/artist on two projects of his own creation, “Singularity 7,” and “Wormwood: Gentleman Corpse,” makes his debut as writer/artist on the nightmarish world of vampires he co-created. This gritty, three-part tale is set during World War II and follows a British military attaché who is assigned to getting aid through Stalin’s frontline troops, all while the Russian winter grows more threatening. However, he finds survival even more difficult than anticipated when an unexpected element—which is much more adept at killing humans than humans are—adds itself to the mix.
“30 Days of Night: Red Snow #1,” the first full-color, 32-page issue of a three-issue miniseries, debuts in August 2007.

ComicZone in Perth
If you're in Perth and haven't checked out the new comic store, COMICZONE ( up the end of Hay Street right close to the Cinema ) then another reason you should do so is any books they'll ever get in from me will always be signed at no extra cost, whenever I get a chance to make it by ( while I still live here ). There should be a big back shipment in soon, according to the boys, including a stack of artbooks like Tommyrot. Something is hopefully in the works too for a competition involving some original art/prints to celebrate the 30 Days movie opening locally when it does...but more on that later as it's still evolving.
Currently, if you're so inclined there's already a couple of 30 Days of Night TPB's on the shelf signed.

Fell TPB, Volume02, the Italian edition
Just got a fancy Italian version of collected Fell in the mail. It has the basic same cover as the Anglo TPB, but curiously, this "volume" only collects the last 4 issues, and then includes a bunch of backmatter from Warren and myself, something the regular TPB doesn't have. ( I can't tell you what it's al about since it's in Italian obviously ). I just don't remember the first volume, collecting issues 1 through 4. So either I am going senile in my old age ( which is highly probable as I descend to grumpy old man status ) or I've yet to actually see the first volume or even confirm that it exists, and I definitely wonder what the cover would look like...or maybe they just wanted the last 4 issues, who knows.
Strange.
Either way, foreign lang editions are wonderful. There should be a full French one out soon or already, since I remember signing my soul away on that one.

Soviet Propaganda posters
"andiwasall Pro User says:
"A Christmas present for the people." (in Latvian)"
One of the largest collections I've come across in awhile. Some really fantastic visual ideas in some. Definitely worth checking out. If only I spoke Russian.
( And Latvian, Czech, German, French, etc etc )

Sneeek Peeek 22: Voodoochild #1
For some reason,( I guess I'm astoundingly lucky nice people like my stuff! ) I was asked to be cover artist for anew Virgin Comics book, " Voodoo Child". It went through a name change, and I actually did this cover while the character himself was still in the final fleshing out stages, so I was a bit tentative on this one at first. Less so as the newer covers are being done mind you. ( I really like #4 thus far, and I'll show em all later )
Tis written by Mike Carey and apparently originally created by Nick Cage, which I only just realized, heh ( I live in a dark corner of the internet you know )...with art from the amazing Dean Hyrapiet whom I need to remember to beg for a Wormwood pinup.
Don't normally even show my thumbs, but here is is from layout/idea gen through to final. ( well, they asked to change the hand slightly for the printed version )

FELL News
Working on some FELL right now ( You know, the well selling, award nominated constantly sold out comic written amazingly well by one of the most talented writers in comics, my master, Warren Ellis ). Here's a cover for #10 a few earlier scribbles for it and a shot of a stack of pages currently near finished for issue #9. All good things come to those who wait.
There'll also be some extra FELL goodies at San Diego Comicon, ( Which both Big W and little ol' Templesmith will both be in attendance ) and I'll post that stuff later... as well as lots of original pages from it available from my trusty art agent, Mark Hay of Splashpageart.com ( or just beat the con rush and get them from the site directly )

Sneeek Peeek 20: 30 Days of Night: Red Snow Covers
As well as the regular cover for 30 Days of Night: Red Snow #1, there'll be a nifty metallicy type Convention Exclusive cover, ( as well as hopefully a bunch of bonus material in the the back ) and a small run variant Retailer Incentive cover, I call the " Lilly Red " version...which I actually like more than the regular one...

30 Days of Night Movie Update
If you want to see a whole bunch of stills from the upcoming movie inspired by the story by Steve Niles and the visuals of Ben Templesmith ( me, duh ) from the comic, then check out this link and enjoy the genius that is David Slade, because he's made it look absolutley beautiful in such a disturbing way.
Sneeek Peeek 19: 30 Days of Night Red Snow
Yep, in the lead up to the 30 Days of Night movie coming out, I'm also doing a little mini, with my take on a little tale that occured long before Barrow turned into a fast food outlet for vampires. Red Snow is all about what happens in Northern Russia during the horrific Eastern Front campaign of WW2, which frankly made most other parts of WW2 look like a picnic. Besides, Nazis and Vampires...who's worse?
Starts in August from IDW Publishing. ( If I haven't mentioned it before )
Here's a couple images of some of the main players, Hoeppner and Keating.

Creepy Dolls and censorship
Take a look at this cool creepy doll art from Tricia. Been meaning to post about it for ages. If I had somewhere to display it properly, the bloody bunny doll would be mine!
Unfortuntely just recently some sensitive people decided these types of dolls were too threatening for their poor little souls, so photobucket decided to censor her account and severely limit the exposure Tricia can get for her work. She even made a vid of it you should check out here.
Thankfully you can still check out her stuff on deviantart if you want to see more.
